Internet of Things (IoT)

Internet of Things

is a new revolution of technology that connects physical objects with eachother and the digital world by the web. The IoT connects daily objects to the web. Beginning with the home appliances, vestment, mobiles and even getting to the point where drugs will be connected to the internet. IoT is the connection of all machines, gadgets, vehicles, sensors, cameras and other things. In the early stages the connection will be between the object and the web, but as this new technology grows, the connection will be between object and object. Working through the Radio-Frequency Identification chips (RFID).

The whole concept of IoT is a synonym of the internet of the future. The IoT connects a fridge to your mobile and can send you a message of the things you need to buy for your house. There are some houses that can be fully controled by a tablet: lights on/ off, turn on the heating, the air conditioning, the water temperature, unlocking doors, open/ closing windows, control the televison, etc. With the development of this new technology one day, your car can tell you that you forgot your wallet in the house, this by itself, just because he senses that on daily basis you have your wallet with you, the day you forget it assumes you will need it. That’s how the IoT will be present on our routine. The world is becoming more and more interconnected, people relying on the internet to communicate, people are connected with people, people are connected with objects and objects are connected with objects. This technology will save money, time, natural resources and even lifes.MakeHouseSmarterThanYou

The concept of Internet of Things was born in 1999 where Kevin Ashton, a employee from Procter & Gamble used the phrase “Internet of Things” to explain the connection of the RFID chips to the web. At the year of 2014 the Internet of Things started to be noticed, the first big innovation that is associated with the IoT was the Google Glass. The IoT is only possible because a lot of previously inventions, after the creation of eletronic communication devices in the 1800’s, the wireless interconnected world in 1926, the creation of the World-Wide-Web in 1989, in 1990 the first connected devices were created, the rise and popularization of the internet during the 90’s, in 2011 the launch of the Internet Protocol version 6 (IPV6) makes possible to do the adressement of everything since the IPV4 could not contain a lot more of adress as the data necessary to apply this technology to all objects will take a lot of space. At the end of the year of 2012 there were about 8.7 millions of connected objects, and it’s estimated that by the end of 2020 there will be 75 millions. Self-driving cars, grocery-buying fridges and a lot of gadgets, things that sound like science-fiction now may be here sooner than expected.

It’s using on adverising, along with the interconnection that all the objects will have and the information they will suply to companies, brands, products about you, there will be an instant analysis about your profile, your preferences and actions. This way the marketing can adapt better to send a message that you will probably be influenced by, their knowledge about you will make the marketing a lot more relational, aimed just for you. Having all that information about their costumers, companies and advertising agencies can make faster and more relevent advertising actions, the marketing department wouldn’t waste time nor money into sending irrelevant publicity for people they know the needs. Automatic if your toaster start to malfunction, it will send a message to the toaster company so they will know that you need to buy a new toaster. The Big Data will be a little obsolete as soon as the intimate data information is used to get to know even the emotions of the costumer. There’s a concern about the invasion of privacy that the IoT will do and may suplly to the companies data about you that you wouldn’t want they to have. The Internet of Things will change the digital marketing as known today, especially because the advertisings are focused on the channels and clients and what really matters is the people, with the IoT the advertisements will focus on people, more direct and relational marketing.
